Zaha had been built up as one of England’s next great talents and turned out to be anything but as he found opportunities at Old Trafford limited. We look at the top 5 Manchester United flops…

5) Louis Saha

Arrived at Manchester United with a record of 53 goals in 117 appearances at Fulham including a 27 goals in the 2000-01 season for the Cottagers. A £12 million move to the Red Devils saw his career take a drastic downturn though as a series of knee injuries meant he only made 33 appearances between 2004 and 2006 before eventually being sold to Everton on a ‘pay as you play’ deal.
4) Massimo Taibi

#

Massimo Taibi was signed for £4.5 million from Serie A as a replacement for Peter Schmeichel and went to make only four appearances for Manchester United. The Italian stopper is most well known for his huge gaffe against Southampton and conceding five against Chelsea which is probably the nicest thing you can say about his time in England.

3) Bebe

The Portuguese enigma moved to the North West when he was signed for £7.4 million and dramatically failed to live up to expectations. After a string of loan moves he has finally moved to Benfica where he is highly thought of but will forever be an Old Trafford flop.

2) Diego Forlan

The Uruguay international was transferred to Manchester United from Independiente in Argentina for a fee of £6.9 million in 2002 and took 27 games to score his first goal for the club. Despite failing under Sir Alex Ferguson he has gone on to impress at both Villarreal and Atletico Madrid accumulatively scoring 128 leagues goals in 240 league games.
1) Juan Sebastian Veron

Sir Alex Ferguson paid £28.1 million for the Argentine midfielder in 2000 and has since himself claimed he was a Premier League flop as he could not handle the rigours of the English game. Manchester United took a £15 million loss on Veron selling him to Chelsea where he again failed to meet expectations.
