After rumours of a potentially immediate exit after a string of poor results – including terrible away form which has seen them defeated for 11 straight matches on the road – and following strong words from their captain at the weekend, Redknapp finally called it quits, though he says it was due to a need for a knee operation.

But who are the possible candidates for his replacement in the hot seat at Loftus Road?

Here’s the top five below:

Chris Hughton

He may only have taken over at Brighton & Hove Albion in December, but the lure of a Premier League switch could be enough to tempt the Irish international into the job at QPR.

Steve Bruce

Bruce’s current Hull City side are sinking fast and the manager doesn’t seem to know what to do to get them out of it. It seems whatever tactics he employs his side aren’t able to execute and they may just have reached their nadir this season with their defeat at home to Stoke City.

If Bruce feels he can do little to get Hull out of the mess they are in, a man with his managerial experience and fighting spirit might be better used to get QPR out of their own troubled position and build on their survival next season.

Neil Warnock

A former QPR boss, Warnock is recently out of a job at Crystal Palace and would be easy to acquire.

Whilst his playing style might not be the most entertaining, the Yorkshireman has a track record of keeping his side up and fighting his way out of trouble.

However, his relationship with Tony Fernandes might prevent any move from materialising given how Warnock was dismissed during his last spell in charge of the Hoops in 2012.

Tim Sherwood

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has been searching for the perfect role since he left Spurs in the summer and has been linked with a number of jobs.

However, given this is a Premier League, London based position, it would seem the perfect fit for someone such as Sherwood and his free enterprising style could provide the impetus the club need to get out of the relegation zone.

Glenn Hoddle

The Spurs legend hasn’t been in a permanent role since 2006 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, but given he only just joined QPR as a coach you’d think he might be the leading candidate to take over from Redknapp.

He’s already on the books with the West Londoners and has the requisite experience and drive to try and get them out of their relegation scrap.
