After drawing 0-0 at the Abbey Stadium with the Red Devils, the visitors were full of confidence and almost turned that into a goal as Tom Elliott broke through on goal – but his effort hit the post.

That would turn out to be Cambridge’s best chance as well as the home team took control of the game and they made their dominance tell when Juan Mata gave them the lead after good buildup play from youngster Paddy McNair.

It wasn’t long until it was 2-0 either as Marcos Rojo scored his first United goal after Robin van Persie flicked the ball back into the box for the Argentine defender.

There was a touching moment for former Man United player Luke Chadwick – who now plays for Cambridge – who was given a standing ovation after being substituted.

In the second half substitute James Wilson scored his first FA Cup goal to put the result beyond doubt and set up a fifth round tie with Preston North End.
