5) Ryan Bertrand – £10m

£10m for a player who has only really started to perform this season is superb business by Chelsea, who never had much of a use for Ryan Bertrand.

4) Kevin De Bruyne – £16.5m

Although Kevin De Bruyne has improved tremendously since joining Wolfsburg, Chelsea did not have any particular need for him and will be pleased to pocket the £16.5m.

3) Andre Schurrle – £24m

Another luxury player that Chelsea had no room for, the Blues sold Andre Schurrle in another masterstroke in the transfer market this winter, allowing them to sign a better player in Juan Cuadrado.

2) Romelu Lukaku – £28m

Despite some impressive loan spells, Romelu Lukaku does not look cut out for playing in a truly top side, and Chelsea did brilliantly to make £28m from his sale, signing Diego Costa for just £4m more and Loic Remy for nearly a third of the price.

1) David Luiz – £50m

One of the most over-rated players in world football, David Luiz was far from good enough for Chelsea, who somehow managed to get £50m from Paris Saint-Germain for him this summer.
