The January transfer window is now finished , with the Premier League enjoying a fairly quiet month. There were still a few big name players on the move however, and fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions as soon as every story broke.

Here are the top ten transfer stories of the January transfer window that created the most Twitter buzz:

10)  Xherdan Shaqiri – Bayern Munich to Inter Milan

The Swiss star was surplus to requirements with the Bundesliga champions, and was heavily linked with a move to the likes of Liverpool in the Premier League.

9) Samuel Eto’o – Everton to Sampdoria

Despite only joining the Toffees recently, Eto’o made the surprise move to Serie A. The 33-year-old penned a two-and-a-half year deal, sealing his switch to Italy.

8) Lukas Podolski – Arsenal to Inter Milan

The German forward was extremely vocal about his lack of first team football at Arsenal, and always looked likely to seek a move away from the Emirates. He eventually got it in the shape of a loan to Serie A side Inter Milan.

7) Wilfried Bony – Swansea to Manchester City

One of the shocks of the window, the Ivorian made a £28m move to the Premier League champions early in January.

6) Gabriel Paulista – Villarreal to Arsenal

Arsenal needed a central defender desperately, and Arsene Wenger didn’t disappoint. The 24-year-old Brazilian was brought over from La Liga, driving Gooners everywhere onto social media.

5) Lucas Silva – Cruzeiro to Real Madrid

Tipped to make a move to Arsenal at one point, the Brazilian star eventually joined Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Merseyside man shocked the world when he announced his imminent Liverpool exit, confirming soon after that he would be joining MLS side LA Galaxy at the end of the season.
