The 34-year-old still has the quality to change games and unsurprisingly ranks highly in our list of the ten most influential veterans in the Premier League. All of the players below are 33 or over:

10) Esteban Cambiasso (Leicester City, 34)

The veteran Argentine midfielder raised plenty of eyebrows when he joined Leicester last summer, his extra quality could still prove the difference between the Foxes staying up and going down.

9) Gareth Barry (Everton, 33)

The former Aston Villa, Manchester City and England midfielder played an integral part in Everton’s success last season, and while his form has been less consistent so far this term, he’s still an important player.

8) Peter Crouch (Stoke City, 34)

The towering centre forward was something of a journeyman when he arrived at Stoke, but is now among the club’s longest serving players having stayed put since 2011 – he’s always capable of causing problems.

7) Clint Hill (Queens Park Rangers, 36)

The veteran defender is still one of Rangers’ most important players, despite the mass of comings and goings at Loftus Road in recent years. It’s not hard to see the passion in his performances, something that’s often been lacking from his teammates.

6) Michael Carrick (Manchester United, 33)

The former England international has remained an important player for Louis van Gaal this season, being used as both a defensive midfielder and as an emergency defender. He always guarantees a decent level of performance.

5) Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal, 34)

His opportunities at the Emirates Stadium have been limited so far this season, but the Czech international still has quality in spades and will play an important role in several Arsenal games before the end of the campaign.

4) Didier Drogba (Chelsea, 36)

Drogba’s experience and dressing-room presence have no doubt proved invaluable to Chelsea so far this season, even if his performances have not been up to their usual high standard. Still has a goal or two in him.

3) Frank Lampard (Manchester City, 36)

The former Chelsea midfielder has proved he still has plenty to offer at Premier League level, having starred on several occasions for Manchester City so far this season, with his seven goals even including a strike against his former side.

2) John Terry (Chelsea, 34)

The Chelsea captain is still among the best defenders in the country. Kurt Zouma has bags of potential, but Jose Mourinho will be desperate to ensure that his skipper extends his stay at Stamford Bridge before the end of the season.

1) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool, 34)

Like Terry, Gerrard is an inspirational figure for Liverpool. Despite his age, he’s still at the top of his side’s goalscoring charts, while he remains the player his teammates look too in times of need. How Brendan Rodgers sets about replacing him will define his time in charge.
