Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal yesterday to gain a small advantage in the chase for a Champions League spot, but Southampton remain 3rd with another win and could cause a shock by the end of the season.

Read on for a look at each side currently 2nd to 7th for a prediction of how they’ll finish this campaign…

Manchester City

Current position: 2nd

Prediction: 3rd

Manchester City drew at home to Hull City this weekend and are on a dreadful run of form. The way things are going, it is hard to see Manuel Pellegrini coming close to retaining the Premier League title, though City are surely still good enough not to slip out of the top four.

Arsenal transfer news

Southampton

Current position: 3rd

Prediction: 6th

Surely they can’t keep this up? Southampton have been tremendous under Ronald Koeman but it’s hard to imagine the other teams won’t get their act together a little more towards the end of the season, while the Saints may struggle to keep this momentum going.

Manchester United

Current position: 4th

Prediction: 2nd

More for the faults of the teams around them than anything else, Manchester United look the best bet to challenge Chelsea for the title for the remainder of the season, and while they surely won’t get too close, they look in good shape to finish above City at the moment.

Tottenham

Current position: 5th

Prediction: 5th

Yesterday’s win over Arsenal is undoubtedly a great result, and Tottenham have shown plenty of promise in recent months, but sadly the club just has too much of a history of choking late on and just missing out. Arsenal are the better team and will surely show it over the remaining games of the season.

Arsenal

Current position: 6th

Prediction: 4th

Another season of fourth place for Arsenal, though their fans probably wouldn’t say no just now. The Gunners have a big job on their hands but the return of Alexis Sanchez should be enough for them to show their overall quality, even if Spurs run them pretty close.

Liverpool

Current position: 7th

Prediction: 7th

It’s not been a good enough season for Liverpool, and it seems unlikely that they will find enough in the games they have left to overtake so many teams above them. It is a big drop from last year’s 2nd place finish, but a transitional period that Reds fans will just have to accept.
