The 19-year-old, making his first league start for the club since being recalled from his loan spell with Derby County, struck the outside of the post with his first-half effort – the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock.

Rodgers, who was quoted by BBC Sport, said of the performance: “I had no qualms about putting him in, it was a brilliant performance. He’s got a wonderful temperament and technique and tactically he was very, very good coming into that system, knowing when to go forward and when to tuck in.”

Of course, there are plenty of other Premier League prospects that have impressed this season. Click through our list below to see where Ibe rates in terms of the top flight’s best English teenagers:

10) Rolando Aarons (Newcastle United)

He scored one and set up another in the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace, while he also found the net in the shock League Cup victory over holders Manchester City.

9) Reece Oxford (West Ham United)

The 16-year-old centre back has been tipped as a future England international, while he was recently drafted into the Hammers squad as manager Sam Allardyce battles with a worrying injury crisis.

8) Jordan Rossiter (Liverpool)

The 17-year-old is still awaiting his first Premier League appearance, although he has been involved in the match-day squad on several occasions. He scored on his debut in the League Cup win over Middlesbrough.

7) Diego Poyet (West Ham United)

The Spanish-born midfielder has so far played for England at youth team level, while he’s also eligible to play for Uruguay through his father – Sunderland manager Gus Poyet. The youngster impressed at Charlton before moving to West Ham last summer.

6) Matt Targett (Southampton)

The latest in a long-line of Southampton youth academy graduates. The left-back has provided back-up for summer signing Ryan Bertrand so far this season, with both players impressing in the wake of Luke Shaw’s departure.

5) Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea)

The 19-year-old midfielder made his Premier League debut in the recent 1-1 draw against Manchester City, coming on as a late substitute to replace Oscar. The England Under-19 international has also featured in the Champions League.

4) Chuba Akpom (Arsenal)

The England youth team international has made three Premier League appearances to date, while he’s also enjoyed loan spells with Brentford and Coventry City. Signed a new long-term contract to remain with the Gunners earlier this month.

3) James Wilson (Manchester United)

Wilson has become a semi-regular in the United team so far this season, regularly being included in the match-day squad by manager Louis van Gaal. He’s scored four goals in all competitions, two of which came on debut in the final game of last season.

2) Jordon Ibe (Liverpool)

After enjoying successful spells in the Championship with Derby County and Birmingham City, Ibe is back at Liverpool and ready to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans.

1) Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Shaw is still not 20 until July. The full-back has made a steady start to life as a United player, even if he’s yet to hit the heights that he did with Southampton last term, when he earned himself a call-up to England’s World Cup squad.
