Manchester United came close to signing Dayot Upamecano on transfer deadline day, but the teenage defender now looks set to join Arsenal, according to The Mirror.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to wrap up a deal to bring the 16-year-old to north London as soon as possible.

Upamecano has earned rave reviews at Ligue 2 side Valenciennes in France, and Wenger wants to make sure he snaps the youngster up before someone else does.

United appear to have missed their chance, but Italian giants Inter Milan remain in the race.

However, Upamecano is said to have his heart set on a move to England, and Arsenal are ready to offer £1m plus extras to get the deal done swiftly.
