Liverpool Roundup: Shock £25m Move For Arsenal Star, Sterling Fitness Woes And Reds Not Worried About Kane

Monday’s biggest stories for the Reds.

Liverpool have concerns over Coutinho, Lucas and Raheem Sterling ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash

The 0-0 Merseyside derby draw with Everton on Saturday has taken its toll on Brendan Rodgers’ squad as he has three injury concerns ahead of the Premier League game with Tottenham on Tuesday.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Coutinho, Lucas and Sterling could all miss the visit of Spurs after picking up knocks against their great rivals at the weekend.

Of the three the defensive midfielder is probably the biggest concern after being forced off just 16 minutes into the match on Saturday due to a thigh issue.

Jordon Ibe proves British players can cut it says Rodgers

One of the biggest positives for the Reds against the Toffees was the impressive performance of 19-year-old Ibe, who started his first league match for the club.

There weren’t many standout moments in the game, but the teenager was definitely one of the highlights as he hit the post with a superb effort and Rodgers has heaped praise on the promising midfielder.

“You saw on the pitch tonight the young British talent, and you can’t say young British players are not technically good enough and tactically good enough,” the Northern Irishman was quoted by the Mirror.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere a shock £25m replacement for Steven Gerrard

With the captain off this summer to join MLS franchise LA Galaxy there will be a big gap left in midfield that Rodgers will need to try and plug.

In an astonishing move the Metro says that the 42-year-old is eyeing up Gunners star Wilshere as the ideal man to replace Gerrard in the middle.

Arsene Wenger has finally lost patience with the England international after his latest smoking antics and would consider selling the 23-year-old for £25m.

Rodgers should forget Saido Berahino and sign Danny Ings instead says club legend

Jamie Carragher says that West Bromwich Albion forward Berahino is not what his former club needs and Burnley’s Ings would be a much better summer purchase.

The Merseysiders have been strongly linked with both Englishmen in recent times and although Carragher believes the Baggies man has more class on the pitch, he worries about his attitude.

“The way Ings comes across and the way Berahino comes across, you think will there be a problem with Berahino, maybe an attitude problem? With Ings, you hear him speak, he says: ‘Let your football do the talking’,” the 37-year-old told Sky Sports.

Martin Skrtel says Reds defence will keep Harry Kane quiet

It is going to be tough at Anfield on Tuesday night to keep a clean-sheet as arguably the most in-form striker in the Premier League comes to visit.

Kane has 22 goals in all competitions this term for Tottenham including a match-winning brace against rivals Arsenal in the North London derby on Saturday, but Skrtel is confident the 21-year-old won’t score on Merseyside.

“He is doing well, scoring goals and we have to look after him. But it is not only him, Tottenham are doing well as a team. They are playing much better than they played before so we have to be ready for them,” the centre-back was quoted by ESPN.
