However this is not the first time that a manager has lost it on the touchline, and here are seven other examples of it happening in recent years.

7) David Moyes and Roberto Mancini scuffle, 2010

During Everton’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City in 2010, the two bosses clashed on the sidelines. Surprisingly only Mancini was charged for the incident, with the Italian seemingly frustrated at his star studded side being unable to beat the relatively poor Toffees.

6) Alan Pardew abusing Manuel Pellegrini, 2014

After a decision went against his Newcastle United side in their 2-0 defeat to the Citizens last season, manager Alan Pardew was seen to say “shut your noise! You f****** old c***!” to City boss Pellegrini.

5) Jose Mourinho poking Tito Vilanova in the eye, 2011

Following Real Madrid’s 3-2 Super Cup defeat to Barcelona, the now Chelsea boss took out his frustration by poking Barca assistant Vilanova in the eye. The Portuguese refused to apologise for the incident.

4) Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho tussle, 2014

Mourinho is known for his ability to wind up others as well as his eye poking. Just this season Wenger was annoyed enough to push the Stamford Bridge boss.

3) Paolo Di Canio fights with own player, 2011

The Italian is known for his fiery temperament, and he let it get the better of him with one of his own players in Leon Clarke when manager of Swindon Town. The two came to blows after Di Canio actually tried to stop him from arguing with fitness coach Claudio Donatelli. What’s more, Clarke had only been at the club for 11 days!

2) Alan Pardew headbutts Hull City’s David Meyler, 2014

Pardew again, and he received the harshest punishment a manager has ever had in the Premier Leage for headbutting Hull City’s David Meyler during the Toon’s 4-1 victory over the Tigers. He was banned for seven games and fine £100,000 for the incident.

1) Delio Rossi attacks own player, 2012

The manager was sacked for this incident where he launched a series of blows on a then 20-year-old Adem Ljajic when he played for Fiorentina. Now at Roma, the midfielder sarcastically clapped his boss’ decision to take him off after just half an hour which would seem to be what incensed the Italian.
