How did their players shape up against the Toffees?

GK) Petr Cech, 8

A rare start for the 32-year-old, and he reminded everyone how good he is. One close range save from Lukaku was miraculous.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic, 6

Looked good going forward, but caught out of position a couple of times when the Toffees countered.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta, 7

Made sure that Aaron Lennon had a tough night in his first Everton start.

CB) John Terry, 7

The skipper had little to do, but did what there was well.

CB) Kurt Zouma, 7

Had a running battle with Romelu Lukaku throughout the match, and although the Belgian didn’t score it was a close match up.

CM) Nemanja Matic, 8

Usually known for his defensive nous, with Cesc Fabregas not starting he roamed forward more and looked dangerous.

CM) Ramires, 6

Didn’t do enough to warrant a stay in the side once everyone is fully fit.

CM) Willian, 7

Looked lost when in the middle, but impressed on the wing when he moved out to accommodate Fabregas when he came on. Got a lucky deflection on the winner.

LW) Eden Hazard, 5

Constantly on the ball and won a few fouls, but this is exactly the type of game he has to influence if he wants to be considered the best player in the league.

RW) Juan Cuadrado, 6

A solid if unspectacular debut from the Colombian, showing snatches of his ability with some dribbles.

ST) Loic Remy, 4

Was dealt with well by Phil Jagielka and John Stones, and did little to excite.

SUB) Cesc Fabregas, 8

Made a noticeable difference when he came on. It says a lot that he could be the best player in what is a brilliant Chelsea team.

SUB) Didier Drogba, 4

Similarly to Remy, Stones and Jagielka had little trouble with the Blues legend.

SUB) Gary Cahill, 6

Didn’t have enough time to make an impact.
