Liverpool Chairman Rules Out Future Marquee Signings

Keeping Raheem Sterling is vital to FSG’s future plans..

Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner has hinted that signing ready made stars will not be the policy adopted by the club in the future.

The Feneway Sports Group owners have repeatedly referred to a ‘Moneyball’ strategy when taking over Liverpool, with the focus on developing young players.

Rodgers has since felt slightly uneasy with the amount of talent Liverpool have failed to secure, Alexis Sanchez being latest in a long line.

However, this is a scenario the Liverpool boss may have to get used to.

“I’m not going to say that there aren’t exceptions to the rule but we feel that it is valuable to have a team that can coalesce for the long term,” Werner was quoted as saying when asked about marquee signings (via LiverpoolEcho).

“Every individual signing can be debated. But we are building a team that we think is only going to get stronger.”

With the absence of Champions League a reality and stadium expansion under way, the finances mean star signings may not be an option.
