Tony Pulis Targeted By Aston Villa In Shock Swoop On Premier League Rivals

Aston Villa have made ‘discreet inquiries’ into the availability of Tony Pulis…

Despite only joining West Bromwich Albion last month, Tony Pulis is a shock managerial target for Aston Villa, who sacked former boss Paul Lambert on Wednesday evening, reports the Daily Express.

Albion would only be entitled to around £2.25m in compensation if Pulis was to leave the Hawthorns, while Villa are believed to be investigating the other details of his current contract. Villa would be due around £60m for remaining in the Premier League.

The Midlands side dropped into the relegation zone after losing to Hull City earlier this week, extending their dismal top flight run to ten games without a win. There record of just 12 goals scored is also the worst at this stage of the season in top flight history.

Pulis replaced Alan Irvine in early January and has already had the desired impact, with just one defeat in his first five league games in charge. He also kept Crystal Palace up against the odds last season, before leaving just before the start of this season.

Tim Sherwood is the current favourite for the Villa job, but Pulis’ proven track record of Premier League survival could make him a tempting option if early negotiations with West Brom go well.
