Ten Biggest Summer Transfer Flops This Season, Including Man United Star & Unhappy Everton Striker

Radamel Falcao and Romelu Lukaku have been two of the most talked about summer transfer flops…

We’re now very much into the final third of the current Premier League season, and with teams already starting to turn their attentions to who they want to bring in next summer, there’s surely no better time to look at who was signed last summer!

Here’s who we rank as the 10 biggest flops of the 2014-15 season:

10) Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United to Queens Park Rangers, Free)

The experienced former England captain was supposed to inspire Rangers to comfortable Premier League safety, but has failed to do anything of the sort. He’s made just 10 appearances so far this season – with only three of those coming since October.

9) Mauro Zarate (Velez to West Ham United, Free)

The striker was one of the first signing’s made by West Ham last summer, but it was clear from the outset that Sam Allardyce didn’t really want him. After making just seven league appearances for the Hammers, he was shipped out on loan to QPR.

8) Hatem Ben Arfa (Newcastle United to Hull City, Loan)

The Frenchman has had his issues, but only his biggest of critics would have questioned Hull swooping for him on loan. Unfortunately, he proved to be a huge flop for Steve Bruce’s side, making just nine appearances before being sent back to Newcastle.

7) Rickie Lambert (Southampton to Liverpool, £4m)

The England international has struggled to adapt to life back with his boyhood club, scoring just three goals thus far in all competitions. With Daniel Sturridge now back from injury, his chances are going to be even more few and far between.

6) Eliaquim Mangala (Porto to Manchester City, £32m)

Has simply failed to live up to his huge price tag so far this season. The French defender looked excellent for Porto, but is still along way from mastering the Premier League, which has been passing him by at times.

5) Mario Balotelli (AC Milan to Liverpool, £16m)

The Italian is finally starting to show signs of adapting to life with Liverpool. However, despite a decent couple of performances over the last week, the truth is that Brendan Rodgers and co will have been expecting a lot more than three goals from him by now.

4) Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea to Everton, £28m)

The Belgian’s form while on loan with Everton last season convinced Roberto Martinez to part with a club-record £28m. Unfortunately, just as Everton have struggled in the league, Lukaku has struggled in front of goal, with just 10 in all competitions.

3) Ander Herrera (Athletic Bilbao to Manchester United, £28.4m)

United were working towards signing Herrera for a long time, dating back to when David Moyes took over in the summer of 2013. Unfortunately, a combination of poor form and injuries have left the Spaniard down Louis van Gaal’s pecking order.

2) Dejan Lovren (Southampton to Liverpool, £20m)

Liverpool parted with the huge big-money transfer fee as they looked to sure up their defence. Ironically, you can trace back Liverpool’s turnaround in form to the Croatian being left out of the side – he faces quite a battle to retake his spot.

1) Radamel Falcao (AS Monaco to Manchester United, Loan)

The Colombian simply hasn’t lived up to expectations. With his huge wages already weighing United down, it’s hard to see them parting with nearly £50m next summer to make the move a permanent one. He’s managed just four goals for the club this season.
