United have been linked with a whole host of big-name signings in recent times after their spending spree last summer, and a number of these are surely on the club’s radar after the manager’s latest quotes…
1) Kevin Strootman (AS Roma)
Long linked as a top target for United, it is likely that AS Roma playmaker Kevin Strootman will be in their sights again this summer, and could be precisely the player van Gaal is talking about.
2) Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma)
Another classy midfield player on the books at Roma, Miralem Pjanic has been linked with United in the past and is also a target for Liverpool. The Bosnian would no doubt make a fine addition at Old Trafford and is available for just £25m.
3) Paul Pogba (Juventus)
An expensive option, but former United midfielder Paul Pogba’s career has taken off at Juventus and he would be a fantastic signing if the club could bring him back – though Chelsea and Real Madrid are also looking at him.
4) Koke (Atletico Madrid)
One of the top midfielders in La Liga, Atletico Madrid starlet Koke is another outstanding young talent who could be ideal to pull the strings in United’s midfield for many years to come, though Manchester City are also interested.
5) Ivan Rakitic (Barcelona)
Not currently playing at Barcelona, Ivan Rakitic hasn’t lived up to expectations since his summer move from Sevilla, though the Croatian remains a top class midfield playmaker who could be a good fit at United and who looks likely to be available.
