How did each player do though?

GK) David de Gea, 6

Had little to do throughout the match.

RB) Antonio Valencia, 7

Also had little to do defensively, but managed a great cross for Marouane Fellaini’s goal.

LB) Luke Shaw, 6

Didn’t attack as much you would expect in a match against such lowly opposition.

CB) Chris Smalling, 6

Was solid, if unspectacular against a weak side.

CB) Marcos Rojo, 7

Assured when tested by the Preston forwards, even if their attacks were rudimentary.

CM) Daley Blind, 7

Important to the Red Devils when in possession, but will be noticed more when playing against better sides.

CM) Ander Herrera, 8

Scored the important equaliser, and played well enough to make it hard to understand why Louis van Gaal doesn’t seem to trust him.

CM) Angel Di Maria, 5

Asked to stay further back than usual, and it seems hard to get both him and Wayne Rooney in the same team.

CAM) Marouane Fellaini, 8

He may not be the prettiest player to watch, but the Belgian does what is needed. Great header for the second goal.

ST) Radamel Falcao, 4

Didn’t miss any big chances this time, but was perhaps worse than that he was anonymous until being substituted.

ST) Wayne Rooney, 8

Finally given a chance up front and he scored, albeit from the penalty spot.

SUB) Ashley Young, 7

Was an improvement on Falcao when he came on for the Colombian, showing how much he has improved under van Gaal.
