The Black Cats became the next in a long list of Premier League scalps for giant killers Bradford City, following a 4-2 away win at Chelsea in the fourth round.

After the final whistle, many Sunderland fans voiced their frustrations towards club management and players though Poyet remained bullish (BBC Sport), “I have no issue with the fans. I never hide and I am the one who’ll pay the price because the only one who can get sacked is me.”

Former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder Poyet has suffered a rocky relationship with Sunderland supporters over recent weeks after he upset many fans following a draw in the previous round against Fulham. Poyet had claimed that fans were intent on a return to kick and rush tactics which had been seen under former Sunderland manager Peter Reid.

In today’s game the Black Cats never recovered following John O’Shea’s third minute own goal, and in fact went further behind to a Jon Stead strike in the second half.

After elimination from the FA Cup, Sunderland will now be able to concentrate on Premier League survival, having lost to rivals QPR at home this Tuesday – their first away points of the season.

The Wearsiders sit 15th in the Premier League, two points above the bottom three with 13 games remaining.
