At the time it was deemed a superb piece of business by the Blues as after agreeing the fee Luiz went onto have one of the worst games of his career on the biggest stage, as Germany beat his Brazil side 7-1 in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals.

Admittedly the 27-year-old has looked good since arriving at the Parc des Princes, but whether he is now worth more than his colossal summer fee is another matter.

“I think and I hope in this room, I am valued more than £50m,” Luiz told the London Evening Standard.

“Football is a business. You have these kind of things. It’s not for me to talk about the price. I just need to show my football every day and do my job for the club.”

The Brazilian is getting ready to face his former employers for the first time since leaving Stamford Bridge as his PSG team host the West Londoners in their Champions League Last 16 first-leg.

The reigning French champions have struggled in Ligue 1 this season compared to their high standards of recent years and Laurent Blanc’s men face a serious threat to their title from Lyon and Marseille.
