Five Recent Chelsea Racism Storms After Shocking Paris Metro Scandal

The Blues have again shocked the football world with their fans’ racist behaviour. Here are five examples of Blues players and fans overstepping the line.

Shocking footage emerged last night of Chelsea fans refusing a black man entry to a train in Paris ahead of their Champions League tie with Paris Saint-Germain.

Disgustingly, but sadly expected, this isn’t the first time the Stamford Bridge outfit have been caught up in racist scandals.

From John Terry’s controversy with Queens Park Rangers’ defender Anton Ferdinand, to monkey gestures from the Blues crowd, the club are awash with a history of racism.

Here are five examples of poor behaviour from Stamford Bridge representatives.

John Terry v Anton Ferdinand

Perhaps the biggest racist incident to happen in the Premier League – in a heated league clash in 2012 between the Blues and QPR, John Terry allegedly called Anton Ferdinand a “black ****” – something the defender vehemently denied.

The scandal cast a shadow over the club, and the then England captain.

The Chelsea skipper was cleared by court but charged by the FA with a four-match ban and a £220,000 fine – although many argue this was not enough.

“You know what you are”

The Blues faithful of course backed their captain following the controversy with Anton Ferdinand – yet their behaviour only damaged the image of the club even more.

In their Champions League tie with Genk, the Chelsea fans repeatedly sang provocative chants aimed at the QPR defender – “Anton Ferdinand: you know what you are” – in an inappropriate attempt to back Terry.

This was a serious example of when a player shouldn’t be backed.

Monkey Gesture

In Chelsea’s fourth-round victory over Manchester United, it was one disgraceful Blues fan that grabbed the headlines come the final-whistle, creating another racist storm for the club in 2012.

Gavin Kirkman was pictured in the crowd making a monkey gesture to Red Devils striker Danny Welbeck, the abuse was pounced upon by authorities, and the thug at question was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated offence.

Chelsea Groundsman in Racist Slur

Chelsea’s clash with Manchester United in 2008 at Stamford Bridge was typically fiery, with a brawl ensuing during the warm-down after the match.

Images showed Blues groundsman Sam Bethell aiming a punch towards Man United left-back Patrice Evra, and it was later alleged that Bethell called Evra a “f*****g immigrant”.

“We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it”

This footage has exploded online as last night a clip was released of a section of Blues fans aggressively shoving a black man off a train before the Paris Saint-Germain Champions League tie.

After pushing the man off, the fans sang “We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it” – an act that the Stamford Bridge outfit will find impossible to condone.

Football fans will be hoping that the individuals in question are named and suffer serious punishment.
