Here is an impressive possible starting line-up which could play for England’s youngsters this summer.

Goalkeeper: Jack Butland

The highly rated goalkeeper has found appearances hard to come by for Stoke City and he has played second fiddle to Asmir Begovic, but could use the tournament as a catalyst at an important time in his career.

Right back: Calum Chambers

The 20-year-old has had a welcome season of first team involvement, although it has been curtailed by a few injuries. Success at an international tournament would stand him in good stead for the full squad and for Arsenal.

Centre back: Phil Jones

Jones already has 13 caps for the senior England side, but if he was to come back to U21 level he could be key in their success as an older, more experienced head.

Centre back: John Stones

Another player who has made his bow for the senior side, with four caps, and hasmade his way into the Everton first team this year, with 13 appearances. The centre back has an incredibly bright future if he is managed in the correct way.

Left back: Luke Shaw

The 19-year-old used last season as his breakthrough and transferred from Southampton to Manchester United in a big money move. He has made 12 appearances for the Red Devils this season, surely that experience would stand the side in good stead.

Central midfield: Jonjo Shelvey

Shelvey has impressed at Swansea with more first team football, following a below par spell at Liverpool. He has played in 19 games and bagged two goals in a more than adequate season so far.

Central midfield: James Ward-Prowse

Big things are hoped from the midfield prodigy who had been attracting interest from Manchester City before he signed a new long term contract at St. Mary’s. Has an incredibly calm head for the young shoulders it rests on.

Attacking midfield: Ross Barkley

Barkley travelled to the World Cup last year with the senior squad but has struggled to get a prolonged run in the full side, he could use this tournament to show Roy Hodgson exactly what he’s missing.
Right wing: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Oxlade-Chamberlain seems to have been around for ages, but the winger, who has 20 caps and four goals for England’s senior side, is only 21. He has copious first-team experience for Arsenal and would be one of the first name’s on the teamsheet if he is to play this summer.

Left wing: Raheem Sterling

Sterling is thought of as one of the hottest talents in Europe at the moment, but it is important he doesn’t get ahead of himself at such a young age. The U21 tournament could be the tonic he needs to keep his feet on the ground.

Centre forward: Harry Kane

The Premier League’s golden boy at the moment, Harry Kane will likely have had his first senior England cap by the time the summer rolls around.  Kane has experience for the younger side and would surely do well for them if he travels.
