Since taking charge results have been less than impressive, as Newcastle have only won one match in all competitions since the turn of the year.

Now the club’s managing director Lee Charnley has come out in support of the under-fire manager, telling a local newspaper that “We want to send out a message of support to John, the staff and the team for the 13 games remaining”

“He is Newcastle United through and through and we all know how deeply he cares about this club. I know that from first thing in the morning until the last thing at night he is giving it everything he’s got and driving the staff and players. He is desperate to get the right results.”

Newcastle have slipped down to 11th in the table and lie 10 points clear of Aston Villa in the relegation zone. Although relegation is not a concern at the moment, that could change if results don’t improve.

It remains to be seen how long the Newcastle board would stand by Carver if that is the case.
