The FA confirmed today that Anthony Taylor has been given the duty of refereeing the Capital One Cup final between London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The game will take place on March 1 and will mark Taylor’s first chance at refereeing a major final.

It will be the third time he has refereed a Spurs game this season, and the club are not happy about it…

They were left unimpressed when Taylor was involved in a major controversy in mid-January after he awarded a penalty to Crystal Palace for Benjamin Stambouli’s tackle on Joe Ledley, with replays suggesting the tackle appeared to be legitimate.

Palace went on to win the match 2-1 in what was Alan Pardew’s first game in charge.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino also has history with the ref after the Argentine heavily criticised some of his decision making while he was manager of Southampton in their 3-2 defeat to Spurs last season.

Taylor has been a Premier League ref since 2010.
