These two sides meet in Glasgow for the first leg of their last 32 Europa League match, in what will be a replay of the 1967 European Cup final.
Jock Stein’s ‘Lisbon Lions’ took on the Italian giants in the biggest game in European football 48 years ago and won 2-1, a story which is still their finest hour.
Today though, both clubs are seeking more modest achievements. Celtic having struggled more than they would like so far to get back to the top of the Scottish Premiership, although things have been comfortable more recently – the scottish side winning their last eight games consecutively.
Roberto Mancini’s Inter have been disappointing this season, and sit 10th in Serie A. They come into the match following a 4-1 win against Atalanta however, with goals from Xherdan Shaqiri, Rodrigo Palacio, and a brace from Fredy Guarin.
Celtic manager Ronny Deila has a decision to make up front, with Leigh Griffiths having scored this weekend against St. Johnstone after replacing the off-form Manchester City loanee John Guidetti.
Kris Commons has been rated with a 50/50 chance of being fit to start the match, with Charlie Mulgrew and Mikael Lustig both injured for the tie.
The Italian side will be boosted with the possibility of welcoming Argentine striker Mauro Icardi back into their first team, and he could be a straight swap in for Arsenal loanee Lukas Podolski, who is ineligible to appear for Inter.
