The Reds play Besiktas in the last 32 of the competition on Thursday evening.

They will be taking the match very seriously as the winner of the tournament will earn a place in next year’s Champions League.

The 25-year-old already has a winners medal in Europe’s premier competition from his time with Chelsea.

The England international said, “We have to get there first, but it is a dream and it is a big target for me. I played a big part in those cup runs with Chelsea, I was top scorer for Chelsea in the FA Cup when we won it, I played a big part in the Champions’ League prior to the final, and in the FA Cup.”

He added, “Finals to me are a long way away at this moment. You could say it’s a dream, but the important thing is to believe in ourselves now, and what we are trying to achieve.”

In the mid-week game the Merseyside club will be coming up against Demba Ba for the first time since Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip allowed the Senegalese international to score the goal that ended their title push last season.

They will be anxious to gain a measure of revenge on the former Stamford Bridge striker.
