GK- David De Gea

The Manchester United shot stopper has been in great form this season, cementing his place in Louis van Gaal’s side. The arrival of Victor Valdes only seems to have motivated the Spaniard even more.

RB- Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic has not only been part of one of the league’s strongest defences, he has also contributed at the other end of the pitch, scoring three in his last five Premier League appearances, as well as Chelsea’s vital away goal against PSG in the Champions League

CB- Martin Skrtel

With Liverpool’s supposed defensive frailties, it is perhaps a surprise to see them currently so high in the Premier League table. The doubts over Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren have added to the pressure upon Skrtel’s shoulders this season, but the Slovakian has responded tremendously, helping Liverpool to an unbeaten run that stretches back to mid-December.

CB- Jose Fonte

The Portuguese centre-back remained a Southampton player, despite the departures of so many of his teammates from last season. Now captain of the side, Fonte has led the Saints to the cusp of European football, while maintaining the Southampton way of helping the young players from the club’s academy.

LB- Ryan Bertrand

The first signing following the Southampton exodus, Saints fans should have known that things would be ok when a Champions League winner arrived. His good form saw his loan move be made permanent for around £10m in January, and the faith that Ronald Koeman put in him has been repaid, as Southampton have conceded the least goals in the league this season.

RM- Alexis Sanchez

The former Barcelona player has made a lightning start to his Premier League career, helping to guide Arsenal to third in the table. He is the highest scoring midfielder in the league this season, and sits in fifth overall. As football fans continue to discuss the value of the Mesut Ozil deal, there is no doubt that the £30m spent on Sanchez was money well invested.

CM- Cesc Fabregas

With 15, the former Chelsea midfielder has nearly double the number of assists of any other Premier League player this season. Fabregas has been an integral part of the Chelsea dominance, leaving Arsenal fans devastated that Arsene Wenger didn’t try harder to bring the Spaniard back to Emirates.

CM- Nemanja Matic

Perhaps the biggest compliment that anyone can pay Nemanja Matic is that he is arguably Chelsea’s best transfer deal. His return to the club last year has seemingly been the missing piece in the jigsaw for Chelsea, helping them move back in title contention, but also highlighting how foolish the club were to let him go in the first place.

LM- Eden Hazard

If the Belgian wins the Player of the Year crown at the end of this campaign, you will find very few people willing to argue with the decision. Hazard has been unstoppable for Chelsea this season, and has contributed nine goals, as he finally truly delivers on the potential which he promised when he first came to England.

ST- Diego Costa

Few strikers have managed to adapt to English football as quickly as Diego Costa. The former Atletico Madrid frontman has seventeen goals already in the league this season. His temperament may however be pivotal to whether Chelsea clinch the title, as the Blues look thin of striking options when he is banned.

ST- Sergio Aguero

The Argentine also boasts seventeen goals this season. His presence in the City side was obvious, as they went through a slump – by their standards – when he wasn’t available. Like Chelsea with Costa, City look a different, more timid side, in front of goal when Aguero’s unavailable. His impact, and loss of it while he is absent, prompted City to spend £27m on Wilfried Bony, which perhaps highlights Aguero’s value to the team.
