John Terry has started a war of words ahead of Sunday’s Capital One Cup final, mocking Spurs striker Harry Kane…

Harry Kane might have scored 24 goals this season, but the form of the Tottenham Hotspur striker hasn’t got Chelsea defender John Terry shaking in his boots, with the Blues skipper claiming the youngster has a ‘long way to go’.

The two London clubs go head-to-head at Wembley on Sunday in the Capital One Cup final, and speaking ahead of the game, Terry has been quick to point out that Kane hasn’t achieved anything yet.

Terry, who was quoted by the Daily Star, said: “He has got to be able to do that year after year. He is a very good player. His movement is fantastic and he is in great goal-scoring form. But there’s still a long way to go.”

Kane scored twice at White Hart Lane this season, when Tottenham beat Chelsea 5-3, but is Terry right? Has Kane not yet earned the right to be considered among the Premier League ten best strikers. Read through the list below to find out:

10) Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)

He might have had a miserable evening against Monaco on Wednesday, but overall it’s been a decent season for the Frenchman. It’s worth remembering as well, that he was out injured for much of the first-half of the campaign, so his tally of 11 goals is not to be sniffed at.

9) Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Terry is right when he says that the youngster needs to prove himself over a longer period of time to be considered one of the best around, but this is a player with realistic ambitions of scoring 30 goals in all competitions this season. He’s been nothing short of sensational.

8) Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

A number of critics were mocking the Belgian striker at the start of this month, claiming that he clearly wasn’t worth the huge transfer fee Everton paid for him in the summer. However, he’s scored 15 goals already this season, and slowly looks to be returning to top form.

7) Wilfried Bony (Manchester City)

He may not have got off the mark with Manchester City just yet, but the Ivorian has proved himself to be one of the Premier League’s deadliest marksmen over the last 18 months. He scored more goals that anyone in the last calender year, and will no doubt prove a success at the Etihad.

6) Robin van Persie (Manchester United)

He’s attracted his fair share of criticism this season, but with ten goals in all competitions he’s still United’s top scorer. He’s netted crucial goals against Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool, suggesting some of that criticism has been somewhat unjustified.

5) Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

It’s been a difficult season for the Bosnian, who’s found himself in and out of the City team. His meagre tally of five goals in all competitions this season pails in comparison to his previous efforts, but a slow six months doesn’t make you a bad striker overnight, while his strike against Newcastle United proved he’s still perfectly capable.

4) Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

The England international returned from a near five-month injury lay-off with goals against West Ham United and Crystal Palace. While he’s still not quite hit the heights of last season, surely it’s only a matter of time before the talented forward starts banging them in again.

3) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

Like many of his teammates, the United captain has struggled for goals this season. He’s got nine thus far in all competitions, but he’s also spent many games playing in midfield. You don’t score 225 career goals for the Red Devils without being pretty good!

2) Diego Costa (Chelsea)

The Spanish international has been in fine form so far this season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions – all in the Premier League. He’s been criticised for his overly-physical style and aggressive nature, but there’s nothing wrong with that if he can avoid picking up needless cards.

1) Segio Aguero (Manchester City)

The Argentine was near unstoppable during the first-half of the season, and while he’s struggled a little since his return from injury, his record for City is unbelievably impressive. He’s scored 22 goals in 28 games this season, and 97 in 150 matches since arriving at the club in 2011.
