Manchester United Boss Believes Top Four Race Will Go Down To Final Weekend

Louis van Gaal feels the race to secure a Champions League place will continue until the end of the season…

The top flight’s duo of leaders seem certainties to finish first and second, but the remaining two spots are still very much up for grabs, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and even Southampton hopeful of making the cut.

United currently sit fourth ahead of tonight’s trip to Newcastle United, but having won just four of their last nine league games are in somewhat indifferent form ahead of a challenging run of fixtures.

Van Gaal’s side face Tottenham, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton in the next two months, in a period that will likely decide the outcome of their campaign. However, the Dutchman is convinced that nothing will be determined until the final week.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently commented that it would take 72 points to secure a top four finish, but Van Gaal is clearly less certain. In quotes covered by the Daily Star, he said: “I don’t think of how many points (it will take), but he is more experienced in the Premier League so I want to believe him, but it is going to the last week, I know that.”
