Here is how the Blues’ players fared…

GK) Thibaut Courtois, 7

Despite the Hammers having control of large parts of the game, he didn’t have a huge amount to do.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic, 6

Not the best performance from the Serbian, but it was a clean sheet nonetheless.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta, 7

Jose Mourinho once claimed that a team made of 11 replicas of the full-back would win the Champions League, gritty performances like this one are probably why.

CB) John Terry, 6

After a stellar game in the Capital One Cup final the skipper looked a bit more his age here.

CB) Gary Cahill, 5

The England international will have to do better than this if he doesn’t want Kurt Zouma taking his place once the youngster moves back from midfield.

CDM) Kurt Zouma, 7

Only his second match in midfield, but the 20-year-old continues to impress despite his inexperience.

CM) Cesc Fabregas, 6

Not his usual self with the ball, and not known for his great defending. This will not do the former Arsenal man’s reputation as a player who fades in the second half of the season any good.

CM) Ramires, 7

The Brazilian is perfect for this type of match with his endless energy.

LM) Eden Hazard, 8

Scored the all important goal, and looked dangerous when he had the ball.

RM) Oscar, 6

Out of position, but still ran himself in to the ground for the team.

ST) Diego Costa, 4

The striker hasn’t scored since January, and didn’t look like doing so here.

SUB) Willian, 6

Did a serviceable job when he came on, but didn’t add the attacking pace that Mourinho may have hoped.

SUB) Didier Drogba, 6

Only came on to waste time.

SUB) Loic Remy, 6

Same as Drogba.
