The Italy international is a key player for his nations and the Ligue 1 champions. As such it is thought that it would take at least £40 million to take the 22-year-old from Parc des Princes. Even so, this may be a good price for a player that could likely improve any midfield in the top flight.

However, it looks like it may take a great deal of persuading to get the youngster to move away from his current club after he professed his love for the city and his team.

He said: “I’m saying this not to please fans, or journalists, I’m saying it because it’s true: I love Paris. Staying here for many years is my main goal.

“There’s no reason to go anywhere else, this is a team which becomes stronger every year, with many great players. I’m very happy at Paris Saint-Germain, and I don’t want to leave.”

The Gunners and the Red Devils are the teams that look more in need of Verratti, with the Blues already in possession of a great midfield partnership with Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic.
