The full-back was arguably at fault for both goals, as Louis van Gaal’s side lost 2-1.

For the opening goal, Valencia had left Gunners defender Nacho Monreal unmarked, and with all the time in the world to tuck the ball past David De Gea.

However, it was the second goal that really highlighted Valencia’s frailties on the night, as his lazy back-pass was intercepted by former United man Danny Welbeck, who took the ball round a helpless De Gea, before sliding the ball into an empty net.

And former captain, Keane did not hold back in his assessment of the two goals.

“I’m looking at it in terms of the defending, and character and putting your body on the line.

“The lads have just downed tools there,” Keane explained.

“Blind and Valencia – it’s absolutely disgraceful. Schoolboy errors and that’s what costs your team. Big moments in a football match and if you give Arsenal, with the quality that they have, that type of freedom that’s what happens.

“It was too easy, shocking. Absolutely disgraceful,” he added.

A bad night for United was compounded when Angel Di Maria was sent off late on for two yellow cards, almost instantaneously. The first came after he was deemed to have dived, just outside the Arsenal area, which was quickly followed by another when he tugged at referee Michael Oliver’s shirt.
