Check out the best Under-21 world XI below:

GK) Simone Scuffet – Udinese

Still just 18-years-old, the Italian shot-stopper looked to be experiencing his breakout season in 2013/14. He is no longer the Serie A side’s undisputed No.1 goalkeeper, but he is still the best young keeper in the world.

RB) Emre Can – Liverpool

Brought to Anfield as a midfielder, Can’s versatility has seen him becoming increasingly important at Liverpool.

Used mostly either as a right-back or the right sided defender in a back three, the 20-year-old has excelled at the club after a slow start.

CB) Raphael Varane – Real Madrid

Despite his young age, the Frenchman has been an established player at the Bernabeu for quite a while.

He is not only a regular at Real Madrid, but an established French international too – and all at just 21-years-old.

CB) Marquinhos – PSG

Having moved to Roma in 2012 for a modest fee, PSG then splashed a massive £30m for him just a year later.

He shows experience well beyond his years, and has been superb for the Parisian club.

LB) Jose Luis Gaya – Valencia

The Spanish left-back has been lighting up La Liga recently, and is attracting the attention of a number of top clubs.

Still just 19-years-old, this young star has a bright future ahead of him.

CM) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Arsenal

If it weren’t for a handful of injuries, this could have been a real breakout season for the versatile Englishman.

His pace and power causes constant problems for his opponents, and Manchester United just couldn’t live with him as they crashed out of the FA Cup last Monday.

CM) Hakan Calhanoglu – Bayer Leverkusen

Arguably one of the best free-kick takers in the world right now, the 21-year-old has been in fine form for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

He has scored some absolutely stunning goals, and doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon.

CAM) Raheem Sterling – Liverpool

One of the most exciting young players in the game, Sterling has proved invaluable to Liverpool over the last two seasons.

He looks on course to becoming one of the stars of the footballing world, and the Merseyside club will do well to hold onto him.

RAM) Munir el Haddir – Barcelona

Another fascinating talent, the Barcelona academy product has been restricted largely to appearances with Barcelona B, but has impressed when given a chance.

He is still young and yet to really prove himself, but looks to be a star of the future.

LAM) Memphis Depay – PSV Eindhoven

The Dutch sensation is highly rated in the Eredivisie, and is thought to be a target for a number of top European clubs.

His pace and trickery makes him difficult to handle, and he could be on his way to the Premier League soon.

ST) Harry Kane – Tottenham

Arguably one of the most in form players in football, Harry Kane has single handedly dragged Tottenham to success at times this season.

He seems unable to stop scoring, and is already being touted as a future England striker.
