The result means the reigning Premier League champions will have to look over their shoulder with Arsenal now just one point behind the second placed side after their 3-0 win over West Ham earlier on Saturday.

Here’s how we rated City’s squad for this shock loss:

GK: Joe Hart – 6

Hardly had anything to do all game and can hardly be blamed for Boyd’s laser-like shot blasted into the bottom corner.

RB: Pablo Zabaleta – 5

Dealt with Barnes down the City right but failed to find any support in the box on his occasional forays down field.

CB: Vincent Kompany – 4

Back in the squad after being dropped last time out but it certainly hasn’t changed his misfortune with his poor header the lead to Boyd’s winner.

CB: Martin Demichelis – 5

Had a better game than Kompany, managing to keep both Vokes and Ings at bay.

LB: Gael Clichy – 5

Kept Boyd quiet when the Burnley man attacked down the flanks but provided no real threat from a wide position.

RM: Jesus Navas – 5

Got forward enough times but like so many from wide positions for City today, he failed to find his man when hitting into the box.

CM: Yaya Toure – 4

It’s no surprise with Toure being so poor that City struggled, he sat deep and tried to pass his way through Burnley but really struggled to impose himself on the game.

CM: Fernandinho – 7

Surprisingly the more aggressive in attack of City’s central two today and managed to turnover play a number of times pressing high up the field.

LM: David Silva – 4

Could have been clean through on the Burnley goal in the second half but was let down by a poor touch, generally anonymous and hardly involved.

ST: Edin Dzeko – 3

Dzeko was the first to be replaced by Pellegrini once City went 1-0 down with the Bosnian striker missing a host of chances in both the first and second half for the Champions.

ST: Sergio Aguero – 5

A poor game overall for Aguero who hardly tested the Burnley keeper, he headed over late on when he could have got City back in it.
