Speaking in an interview with Goal Wilmots paid tribute to Hazard, who has been in sparkling form for the Blues this season.
However, some have criticised the ex-Lille man by arguing that he should be scoring more regularly, like Barcelona ace Lionel Messi.
But Wilmots jumped to his defence by saying those lashing out at him are getting it all wrong, and that he fulfils a similar role to that of Zidane.
“He is a big talent. When I see him, I see Zinedine Zidane. His development is continuous. With his assists and goals, he is an important player for Chelsea,” Wilmots said.
“He is only 23 years old [sic], but has played for six years as a professional. We shouldn’t compare him with Ronaldo or Messi. He will go his own way, not the way of Ronaldo or Messi.
“Eden has the potential to become one of the five best players in the world. The good thing about him is that he makes no pressure at all, he handles everything in quite a relaxed way. Certainly Eden has no ego problem, he is a team player, the team always comes first. For this, I respect him.”
