Going on current speculation, it looks as though Jose Mourinho could splash out as much as £143m on new players to bolster his squad in the summer, with Roman Abramovich prepared to back his manager to build a squad capable of doing better in the Champions League.

Mourinho has been handed around £75m to spend so far, and further funds could come in the way of player sales, with a number of first-teamers’ futures in doubt at the moment.

The three players coming in look likely to be as follows:

1) Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

Speculation is growing that Gareth Bale could quit Real Madrid this summer, and Chelsea are said to be ready to rival Manchester United in the race for the Welshman’s signature in a £71m deal.

2) Koke (Atletico Madrid)

With a release clause of around £44m, Chelsea have also been linked repeatedly with a move for Atletico Madrid midfield starlet Koke, who could be an improvement on the off-form Cesc Fabregas this summer.

3) Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)

One of the top young defenders in the word, Chelsea could make it a double raid on Real Madrid this summer with a £28m move for Raphael Varane, who is a favourite of Jose Mourinho after their time together at the Bernabeu.
