With the pair looking fluent together, does this show the way forward for manager Louis van Gaal. The 63-year-old has looked unsure as to his best starting XI all season, so who should he be playing?

GK) David De Gea

Fairly obvious here, the Spaniard has been in amazing form throughout the campaign.

RB) Antonio Valencia

Despite his mistake against Arsenal last week, the Ecuadorian is a better option than Rafael in the role. However, this might be an area they look to improve in the summer.

LB) Luke Shaw

The youngster isn’t the finished article by any measure, but the only way he will improve is by playing.

CB) Marcos Rojo

Even though he has been held back by injuries since arriving in the summer, the 24-year-old has quickly become the best centre-back at the club.

CB) Phil Jones

He may be a bit agricultural, but without many other options at the club the England international could be the best bet.

CDM) Michael Carrick

Even at 33-years-old he is one of the best passers at the club.

CM) Ander Herrera

He has impressed every time he has played, and the former Athletic Bilbao man deserves to be a regular in the side.

CM) Daley Blind

The 25-year-old gets in ahead of Marouane Fellaini, as it is expected van Gaal will want to play a passing game rather than be hoofing it up to the big man.

LW) Ashley Young

Unbelievably on current form the much maligned winger should play ahead of record signing Angel Di Maria. Of course if his rival were to rediscover his touch then this could change.

RW) Juan Mata

The Spaniard has shown his manager why he should be starting with his performance against Spurs. He can’t be spending as much time as he has been on the sidelines from now on.

ST) Wayne Rooney

Both Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie have had their chances this season, but the skipper has been the best striker by a mile.
