It was a tough night for the Reds though, who struggled to play with their usual free-flowing style that has taken them on this fantastic run. They were helped out by their goalkeeper on a couple of occasions, and needed Henderson to grab his third goal in his last three games to seal the victory.
Here’s how Liverpool’s players got on:
GK- Simon Mignolet 7
Made a couple of crucial saves during the first half to keep the game goalless, but his distribution continues to be a worry.
CB- Emre Can 5
Struggled with Neil Taylor all game. Probably one of his worst performances since he became a regular.
CB- Martin Skrtel 6
Was fairly solid as usual, but had some difficulty dealing with Sigurdsson and Gomis.
CB- Mamadou Sakho 6
Made some strong tackles throughout the game, but his passing was poor, and he gave the ball away cheaply
RM- Adam Lallana 6
Had a quiet game, having struggled to adapt to starting as more of a wing-back, and failed to improve once pushed forward
CM- Jordan Henderson 7
The captain stood up scoring the winner, but a booking within the first few minutes restricted his ability to go into challenges.
CM- Joe Allen 6
Arguably struggled to keep the ball in the first half, but looked tidy against his former club, and worked hard for his team.
LM- Alberto Moreno 5
Found it difficult to deal with Routledge’s pace, and offered very little in an attacking sense before he came off for Gerrard.
ST- Raheem Sterling 6
Looked lively early on, but was quiet once he was moved back into a more defensive position. Not one of his best performances.
ST- Daniel Sturridge 6
Blew a decent chance early on, and had a quiet game, but got the assist for the winner.
ST- Philippe Coutinho 6
Looked to cut in whenever he could, but failed to be involved as much as he would like. Forced a good save from Fabianski in the second half.
