Sunderland already eyeing replacement as pressure on Gus Poyet builds up
Here are the ten favourites for the job according to the bookies…
10) Glenn Hoddle
He hasn’t managed a team since 2006, but the pundit has been touted for almost every job recently. After his comments regarding the disabled it is unlikely he will be given the job.
9) David Moyes
Now enjoying some relative success at Real Sociedad, the former Everton and Manchester United boss could be tempted back to the Premier League to prove a point.
8) Aitor Karanka
Currently guiding Middlesbrough to a serious promotion charge in the Championship, it isn’t guaranteed Jose Mourinho’s old protege would want to leave the club for the Black Cats.
7) Cristophe Galtier
The Saint-Etienne manager has been linked to fierce rivals Newcastle United, but could be tempted by their neighbours.
6) Billy Davies
Not the most popular figure in football, but the ex-Derby manager could be an option should the North East club be relegated.
5) Ben Olsen
The wildcard option. It would be surprising if Olsen made the jump from MLS side D.C.United straight to the Premier League.
4) Harry Redknapp
Out of football since February, Sunderland might be too far north for the old Tottenham man. He tends to manage clubs in the South East of the country to be near his home.
3) Michael Laudrup
It seems a waste for the 50-year-old to be managing Qatari side Lekhwiya after not being a complete failure at Swansea City. Money might be a stumbling block for any move though.
2) Sam Allardyce
With his West Ham contract ending in the summer and a new deal not forthcoming, ‘big Sam’ might be tempted to jump ship before he is pushed. Would almost definitely do a fine job at the Stadium of Light.
1) Dick Advocaat
The surprise favourite for the job has a relatively good history in club and international management. The widely experienced coach would need all of his nous to get Sunderland out of their current jam.
