They couldn’t, could they? Four reasons Chelsea might bottle the Premier League

Chelsea drew with Southampton on Sunday to go six points clear at the top of the Premier League in an unconvincing fashion. In the two Premier League matches before this they drew with Burnley and only just beat an out of form West Ham.

Graeme Souness still thinks Chelsea are PATHETIC despite Jose Mourinho criticism

It is very unlikely, but could the Stamford Bridge outfit sill throw it away?

4) Complacency

Almost immediately after crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of PSG, Jose Mourinho asserted that his team would win the Premier League. This could point to the Blues already think they have it in the bag. Not a healthy mindset.

3) Tough run of fixtures

Between April 18 and May 9 the Stamford Bridge outfit have to play Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the space of five games. If they were to continue looking out of sorts during this run of games, they may find it hard to get the points they need.

2) The form of others

While Manchester City may be stuttering, Arsenal have only lost twice this year in the league and Manchester United aren’t far behind results if not form wise as well. If Chelsea slip up at all, there will be a few teams waiting to overtake them at the last moment.

1) Player fatigue

Unlike a lot of the top teams, Jose Mourinho doesn’t rotate his starting XI that much through the season. As a result, John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard, Oscar, and Diego Costa have played the vast majority of the Blues’ fixtures this season. It also means that his group may be tiring towards the end of the campaign. Fabregas has especially shown this, with his performances dropping off dramatically in recent weeks.
