The ten most popular football shirts in the USA this season: Arsenal and United outsold by Spanish giants

It’s fast becoming an old saying that football is a growing sport in the United States, but with every passing season the interest in the European game continues to grow.

As club’s continue to search for ways to crack the lucrative American market, they’ve realised that official shirts go a long way to establishing their presence across the pond, and Soccer Lens have out together a list of the top selling jerseys this season.

10. Tottenham Hotspur

Perhaps the most surprising entry on the list, Spurs’ rather bland offering has shifted a fair number of units this term. Could Brad Friedel’s influence alongside new signing DeAndre Yedlin recent move have anything to do with this?

9. Chelsea

A big club with big reach. Chelsea’s mix of riches, success and superstars ensure they have a global presence. Frank Lampard’s association with the club has likely aided this.

8. Real Madrid away

Distinctive and unusual, for Real anyway. You wouldn’t imagine that the bold design would do well in America, but it’s snuck into the top 10 anyway.

7. Manchester United

United have enjoyed a huge popularity in the States since their early success in the 90s, and despite not being one of their more inspired designs the current home shirt is selling well.

6. Borussia Dortmund

It may look like a biohazard chem suit, but Dortmund’s popularity in America continues to soar. Jurgen Klopp’s men haven’t been meeting their usual standards this term, but that seemingly hasn’t mattered all that much.

5. Real Madrid Home

Real have proved to be one of the biggest sellers this term, thanks largely to the massive football loving Hispanic communities in parts of the country.

4. PSG

Another surprise entry is PSG. The French giants can’t have even registered as a blip on the radar before the megabucks came along, but their recent rise to success hasn’t gone unnoticed on the other side of the Atlantic.

3. Arsenal

The Gunners are apparently developing quite a following Stateside, and the sales of their new shirt appear to reflect that.

2. Real Madrid 3rd

Adorned with a weird dragon, this shirt offers a wider appeal than that of a regular football shirt, and though it is an odd design, it’s proved to be a hit with Americans.

1. Barcelona

There’s a reason that Barca’s motto is ‘more than a club’ as they not only dominate the Spanish football landscape, but dominate the shirt sales of European clubs in the Untied States.
