Les Merlus will have been buoyed by last weekend’s result, when they managed to pull away from the Ligue 1 drop zone with a tightly-fought 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Stade Malherbe Caen on Saturday.

However, as if a trip to reigning champions PSG wasn’t enough to bring them crashing down to earth, Sylvain Ripoll learned this week that he will be without valuable left-sider Guerreiro.

It was the Portuguese youngster who opened the scoring against Caen with a wonderful drive.

Guerreiro will be out after overextending his left thigh, it is an absence that has caused lament among Lorient’s staff.

“It’s always a hard blow when we lose a player,” began Eric Garcin, Ripoll’s assistent, “Raphael brings us a lot, he scores goals and he’s very efficient in the group, but he’s injured, we have to deal with it.”
