8. Monaco

The weakest of the eight teams left in the tournament, first leg victory over Arsenal was a shock to many, their performance in the second was not. Problem is they don’t score enough goals to pose a genuine threat.

Likely to be eliminated if they draw one of the bigger sides in the quarter-finals.

7. Porto

The 2004 winners have been quiet yet efficient in Europe this season, comfortably dispatching Basel 5-1 on aggregate at the last 16 stage.

Unlikely to pose much of a threat to the bigger sides left in the competition.

6. Juventus

The Serie A leaders were mightily impressive in knocking out Dortmund in the last 16, a 3-0 second leg result which made the rest of Europe take notice.

With a 14-point gap at the top of the table in Italy, they can afford to shift their attentions on trying to bring a third Champions League trophy back to Turin.

5. Paris Saint Germain

The French champions caused a major upset by knocking out Chelsea on away goals with ten-men.

Is this the season where they come of age in Europe?

Dark-horses.

4. Atletico Madrid

Last season’s finalists may be off the pace in La Liga’s title race, but when it comes to the big games Diego Simeone knows how to get the best out of his players.

Not a tie that the any of the remaining teams in the tournament would relish, in particular their local rivals Real Madrid.

3. Real Madrid

After scraping through the last 16 stage against Schalke by the skin of their teeth, they don’t possess the same aura that they had at the beginning of the season when they won a record 22 matches in a row.

But with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, it’s impossible to write them off becoming the first side to retain the trophy in its current format.

Just got to avoid Atletico….

2. Barcelona

Very impressive against Manchester City over two legs and with a front three of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar, the possibilty of a fourth European title in nine years is very high.

1. Bayern Munich

With the Bundesliga firmly under control, Pep Guardiola’s side can fully focus on the Champions League, which is a scary prospect for the rest of Europe.
