1) Francis Jeffers

One cap, one goal – former Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers has a 100% record with England, but his form at club level shows why he never made it into the team again…

2) Joey Barton

More well known off the pitch than for anything he does on it, Joey Barton is another player surely right to only get one England cap.

3) Lee Bowyer

There he is, next to a certain Luis Figo – it’s fair to say Lee Bowyer is another player who never really looked like England material despite a semi-decent Premier League career.

4) Anthony Gardner

What Anthony Gardner did to warrant an England call-up is beyond everyone, and yet there he is.

5) Kevin Davies

Handed his England debut and only appearance at the age of 33, Kevin Davies has to be one of the most pointless call-ups of all time.

6) Dave Nugent

Like Jeffers, Dave Nugent was a painfully average striker who somehow has the unique record of one cap and one goal, which came from literally on the goal line against Andorra.

7) Lee Hendrie

Once regarded as a promising talent, Lee Hendrie had some good games for Aston Villa, but it was all downhill after his solitary England cap.

8) Michael Ball

Barely remembered by anyone, Michael Ball played for Everton, Manchester City and a number of other teams in a very low-profile career which somehow led to an England call.
