Laurent Blanc’s side took the lead inside three minutes after Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired home from the spot. It ought to have been the perfect launch pad to go on to record a convincing victory, but PSG were unable to find a second goal.

“We didn’t get the goal to kill the match,” agreed Javier Pastore, speaking to BeInSport after the match.

As Paris laboured, Lorient took confidence and equalised through Jordan Ayew.

Indeed, Ayew could have dragged Les Merlus into the lead some moments later but his strike was saved off the line by Marco Verratti.

Ultimately, PSG’s inability to kill the contest didn’t come back to haunt them as Pastore himself won a penalty having been brought down by Lamine Kone on 82 minutes.

Having converted that spotkick, Zlatan then confirmed the victory with a powerful late strike.
