Can Toulouse build on their weekend victory over local rivals Girondins de Bordeaux in the Derby of the Garonne and escape the drop?
Cameroon defender Jean Armel Kana-Biyik scored the winner with a close-range header [see video below] after Diego Rolan had cancelled out Wissam Ben Yedder’s opener.
It was the kind of result and performance that can transform a season, but in the short term it doesn’t lift Le TFC out of the relegation zone.
The Pinks, now coached by Dominique Arribage, still sit in 18th place. While they need not worry about the two teams below them-Racing Club de Lens and FC Metz-closing the gap after failing to win this weekend, Toulouse still have a lot to do.
By the end of the weekend’s action, and with 30 games played, they have 32 points-two fewer than FC Lorient in 17th and three below Evian Thonon-Gaillard in 16th.
It is imperative that Toulouse follow this fine performance against Bordeaux up with a victory against fellow strugglers Metz in their next top flight match, while they travel to Lorient on April 18 for what should be a classic relegation six-pointer!
