Martin O’Neill watched his side go a goal behind in the first half thanks to a mistake at the back by makeshift left-back Robbie Brady. The Irish were poor throughout the opening 45 minutes, but the home side were galvanised in the second half, and put pressure on the Poles.

Eventually this paid off, with Long netting from a corner in added time.

The forward took a great first touch before finishing past Swansea City goalie Lukasz Fabianski, who had started ahead of dropped Arsenal star Wojciech Szczesny.

This point has kept Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2016 alive, with them now just two points behind second and third placed Germany and Scotland.
