The Franco-Algerian attacker resisted overtures from the Desert Foxes to opt to represent Didier Deschamps’s France side during the international break.
He came on at the Stade de France to make his debut in defeat to Brazil on Thursday evening and also entered against Denmark in another international friendly at the Stade Geoffrey Guichard on Sunday.
With two caps under his belt, Fekir, who has been one of the outstanding players in France this season, will be looking to kick on and grab a spot at the European Championships on home soil next summer.
However, he has assured fans and reporters that he will not be getting carried away with his new ‘international’ status.
“I’m a calm person, I have my feet on the ground, and I’m going to try and handle this well,” the 21-year-old began, speaking to Ligue1.com.
“I mustn’t get carried away, I only have two caps. It’s now down to me to work at Lyon to try and improve,” he continued.
“They’re just my first caps, I didn’t expect to play. But I’m very satisfied. I don’t expect a place in the starting line-up. It’s up to me to do all I can to try and earn my place in the team.”
Fekir will need to be his best for the remainder of the season if Lyon are to win their eighth Ligue 1 title, and their first since 2008. Having been defeated—surprisingly—by OGC Nice at home last weekend, Hubert Fournier’s side have fallen one point behind reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.
With PSG travelling to Marseille this weekend, matchday 31 represented a valuable opportunity for OL to return to the top of the classement.
