Here are five reasons why the 20-year-old should take this chance to leave Anfield…

5) Play in his best position

In recent matches the England international has been put at wing-back by Brendan Rodgers and has struggled to make an impact. Were the youngster to make a big money move to a new club they would surely play him in his best position behind the striker and allow him to keep on developing there like he was doing beforehand.

4) He can’t learn any more at Anfield

With Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard leaving the club, Sterling has fast run out of players that he can learn from at Anfield. Most of the team are around the same age as him, and manager Rodgers is still learning as a coach himself. Were the winger to move on he could well go to a club with world class players to help develop his game.

3) He could win more trophies!

In his time at Liverpool the England star has won a grand total of zero trophies. This is sure to bug a player with the talent to win many throughout his career, however young he is. A transfer to a more successful side may be beneficial.

2) He could be more valued elsewhere

These elongated contract talks have made one thing clear, that the Reds don’t want to be pushed around by their players anymore. However, you can’t help but draw parallels to when Luis Suarez pulled a similar stunt and got exactly what he wanted in a new deal. The fact that Sterling hasn’t so far may make him think that he might be valued more elsewhere.

1) To push himself

While he stays at Liverpool the 20-year-old will always be cut a little slack in the way that other club favourites such as Steven Gerrard are. If he really wants to push himself to his limits and become the best he can then the forward should play in a new environment. Having a diffreent manager to learn from would also add to his game.
