Enviable Liverpool XI of U25s: Reds boast deadly lineup that could dominate for years

Whilst there might be question marks over the future of Raheem Sterling at Liverpool, there should be no queries over just how well equipped the Reds squad is over the next few years.

With the likes of Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Philipe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge all entering their prime – perhaps Rodgers doesn’t need to splurge out on some expensive acquisition in the transfer market with a potentially devastating, young XI available to him right now in the Liverpool ranks.

We look at just how good the future Liverpool squad could be:

GK: Danny Ward

Age: 21

Little Premier League experience as yet but expect him to challenge in years to come, especially with the current question marks over Simon Mignolet’s long term suitability to the first-choice shot stopper role.

RB: Jon Flanagan

Age: 22

Injury marred this campaign after a wonderful breakout season during Liverpool’s title charge in 2013/14 – will want to pick up where he left off in the last few games of this season if he can but definitely in 2015/16.

CB: Mamadou Sakho

Age: 25

Has managed to successfully turn around a Liverpool move that looked to have failed, his presence at the back was a contributing factor to Liverpool’s incredible charge back into top four contention since January.

CB: Dejan Lovren

Age: 25

Still has a lot of convincing to do on Merseyside but if he can find the form he showed at Southampton there’s no reason he can’t become an Anfield regular.

LB: Alberto Moreno

Age: 22

Looks to have wonderfully adapted to the rigours of the Premier League and is the perfect balance between robust defence and explorative attack.

CM: Jordan Henderson

Age: 24

The captain-elect who looks the natural born successor to Steven Gerrard.

CM: Emre Can

Age: 21

In years to come Can could well turn out to be one of the best transfer bargain’s of all time but must first prove he can live up to the excitable hype of so many Liverpool fans.

RAM: Lazar Markovic

Age: 21

Markovic looked completely lost following his move from Benfica but, like the rest of the Liverpool squad, looks to have rediscovered his verve.

CAM: Raheem Sterling

Age: 20

His future in terms of whether it’s at Liverpool is in doubt but surely what’s not is just how big a success he will be. Just where he will reap that success is a question that looks set to run.

LAM: Philippe Coutinho

Age: 22

Another Rodgers bargain, a player who was given a chance when many overlooked and saw unfulfilled potential. Coutinho is definitely having the last laugh as he smacks in yet another goal from 25 yards.

CF: Daniel Sturridge

Age: 25

It took time and three different clubs but Sturridge finally looks the player many hinted he could become.

Whilst last season he was a revelation this one has been marred by multiple injuries and he perhaps needs to prove he can get a consistent run again in the side before serious questions start getting asked of his robustness.
