The Blues went ahead after 39 minutes when Eden Hazard converted from the penalty spot, but the Potters were on level terms a minute before the interval thanks to a spectacular long range effort from Charlie Adam.

But the home side came back out for the second half the hungrier of the two side and restored the lead just after the hour mark as Hazard squared for Loic Remy to net the winner.

Check out our player ratings:

GK) Thibaut Courtois (6)

Beaten by a world class strike from Charlie Adam that he could do nothing about, otherwise had nothing to do.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic (6)

Solid as usual, came close to scoring but was denied by Asmir Begovic.

CB) Gary Cahill (6)

Couple of timely blocks in the first half.

CB) John Terry (6)

Coped reasonably well with the Stoke City attacks.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta (6)

Chelsea’s Mr consistent as he rarely puts a foot wrong.

MC) Cesc Fabregas (5)

Yet another quiet game from the Spanish playmaker.

MC) Nemanja Matic (6)

Gave the ball away which almost lead to Steven N’Zonzi opening the scoring in the first half, not his best performance of the season.

AMC) Oscar (5)

Missed a glorious chance in the first half with the score at 0-0 and was subbed at half-time.

AMR) Willian (8)

One of the best players on the park, had a hand in the second Chelsea goal, was always a threat going forward.

AML) Eden Hazard (9) MOTM

Broke the deadlock with a coolly taken penalty, then set up Remy for the winner.

ST) Loic Remy (8)

started ahead of Diego Costa and scored the winner, may get more regular action in the coming weeks if the Spaniard injury is a bad as first feared.

SUBS

Diego Costa (4)

Replaced Oscar at half-time but forced off again with a hamstring injury, lasting just 11 minutes, major concern for the Blues.

Didier Drogba (5)

Took the place of Diego Costa and didn’t really get into the game. Booked.

Juan Cuadrado (6)

Denied his first goal in English football by a good save from Begovic.
